Decorating!

And finally the fun stuff! We haven't completely moved in yet, it's amazing how much stuff we collected in that tiny apartment! But we are beginning to hang curtains and decorate the place some. It's really beginning to feel like a home. I made these curtains yesterday and Bryan graciously hung them for me when he got home. I wanted them to hang low enough on the window that some light would come in while still maintaining some privacy in the guest bathroom. I wasn't entirely pleased at first, but they are growing on me. We have also hung curtains (store bought as the desperate need outweighed the desire for handmade) in the office and our bathroom.
This is the sideboard I bought at the Apple Basket that my mom so graciously kept for me. It is the only piece of furniture currently inhabiting the dining room but it will get some friends soon! Behind it you can see some of the myriad pictures that have not yet been hung on the walls. There is time, I know, but I am so impatient!

Finally, It's Ours!

Denise and I closed on the house today. Everything went more quickly and smoothly than we anticipated - a relatively painless proceeding, in fact, until one looks at the amortization schedule! We still have some serious work to do: appliance deliveries, carpet installation, moving stuff from the apartment...

Most of the hard stuff should be done in a few days. Denise furnished the first room, and I had the camera snap the first shot of us in our new home!

Sewing Room

This bit of basement is going to be the most important room in the house. My long awaited sewing room. No more taking over the dining room table. No more pins in the living room carpet for Bryan to fear stepping on. Everything will be contained in a room that can easily have the door shut on. The room is going to be a soft green with thin white curtains. It's going to be a great room for craft parties. Currently, there is a dearth of furniture so both my machine and I will be sitting on the floor for a while. I already envision a setup against that window though with maybe some bookcases for storage and one day a dress form. Since the room mostly faces south, there is a lot of light and it doesn't feel basement-y. Oh, I have plans. I have LOTS of plans.

A little about it...

The house has about 2700 sq/ft of finished area. There's a 2-car rear-entry garage, 4 bedrooms, 3 and 1/2 baths, basement with finished rec room area (Denise has claimed that for her sewing room), and a 24'x24' unfinished space with 8 windows over the garage. The main floor is all hardwood, and the kitchen has maple cabinets and granite counters.

The lot is about an acre. It will be a challenge to landscape, as we'll have to work around the septic drain field and the wooded areas that are supposed to remain undisturbed. There are neighbors to one side and to the rear. Once the leaves return, the privacy should be pretty good (as long as nobody builds on the lot to the left). There's a deck on the back that will be great for barbeque parties. (Bring the steaks, please!)

A few more days

Just a few more days (January 27) until Denise and I close on our first home. It is a nerve-wracking process - mainly due to the waiting for information as we go from step to step. The seller still has to put carpet in for us, and our appliances are scheduled for delivery on Friday. Our realtor seems pretty confident we are on schedule, though. So, here are some pictures! -Bryan
